Taking a Trip to see the Minnesota Vikings. Please Help?
steph_the_chef asked:
Ok, So I’m planing a trip for my husband and I to go to a game. He’s a huge fan and unfortunately we live in Florida. I have never been and I don’t know where to start. I am on a budget, and I was thinking a preseason game would be best because it won’t be cold yet(again, we live in FL and i can’t take the winter). So here’s where i need help!
1) Any good/clean hotels in an area conveinent to the metrodome? The price range is up to $130 a night
2) I heard that you should not drive there but take public transport. Is that true? If so, whats a suggested area for us to stay in where we will be conveinent to other stuff, ie. shopping, restaurants, sights, night life?
3)How far is the airport to the metrodome?
4) What else is worth seeing while we are there? We will probably be there for about 4 days. We don’t travel often, So I’d like to do as much as possible in this trip.
Thanks in advanced for your help!

go to the mall of america—dont go preseason if its his only chance to see a game make it count—ive been a chargers season ticket holder for 11 seasons and i can tell you from experience the preseason games are the same price as regular season even though they are meaningless—take him to the chargers game if you dare!!!!!! bolts will smoke them—check on for cheap hotels and rental cars
It is a football stadium in a big city of course there are good hotels that are cheap.
Sorry, I’ve never been to Minneapolis. But yeah, do not waste the trip on a pre-season game. Go to a game in September or October if you don’t want it to be winter.
Daunte Culpepper and Fred Smoot said to tell you that cruises on Lake Minnetonka are always fun.
Don’t go to a pre-season game, and don’t believe the cold weather hype. September and early October are great times to be in Minnesota. The home opener is September 9, then they are on the road for a couple weeks, and then they have a game on September 30 against the Packers. If you can get tickets to either of those games….get them.
I’d contact Priceline for hotel deals. I’m fairly certain you can get a decent room withing walking distance of the Metrodome (where the Vikings play) for the range you are looking at…but book early.
Driving in Minneapolis is really easy, but you don’t need a car if you plan on sticking around the city proper.
Airport to Metrodome is less than 30 minutes. However, this depends on the traffic and time of day you are making the trip.
As a resident of Minneapolis for the past 30 years, it is hard for me to say what an outsider might find interesting. If you are looking for things that are interesting and don’t cost any money, I’d recommend going to the Walker Sculpture Garden, Minnehaha Falls, Taking a stroll across the Stone Arch Bridge and taking in some Jazz at the clubs along the Mississippi. Also, Minneapolis has one of the largest public park systems in the country. With nice fall weather, you can take a stroll around Lake of the Isles or Lake Calhoun, and end up in Uptown where you can have great food and drinks. If you want to visit an authentic river town filled with antique shopping and dining, take a trip out to Stillwater on the St. Croix river. That time of year, it would be very nice.
I see that others have recommended some interesting things as well - the Minnesota Zoo, the Science Museum, and (ugh) Mall of America (it’s a monument to capitalism - which isn’t a bad thing, but Minneapolis has so much more to offer, and that is what we’re known for…).
I’ve put some links below if you’re interested. I home you come here and have a great time!
VIKQUEENS SUCK! and Minnesota has nowhere good to stay and you shouldnt enter the state of minnesota anyways, remember the boat scandal…..VIKINGS SUCK! GO PACK GO!!
Don’t worry about being cold at the game. They play indoors.
